I was super excited for getting back into Mass Effect... and then I read the RPS review :(

I have it pre-loaded ready to play later tonight.

But yes, it has been getting some rough reviews.

Meh. It's RPS. I wouldn't take anything they say about a Bioware game seriously.

All my friends who are actually playing the game already have all reported having shitloads of fun.

By all accounts the game is much more of a sandbox game, which the original series was nothing of the sort.  Can't wait to create my first character tonight.  I think it unlocks at 9pm for me.

I won't get a chance to fiddle with it until maybe Wednesday. I preordered it from Amazon to get the 20% discount, so it won't arrive until tomorrow. Then there's things to do tomorrow.

And that's only if I can drag myself away from Nier:Automata, which is shaping up to easily be my GOTY and possibly a top 10 ever.

Nier seems like a button masher which is why I have ignored it to now.  I guess there is more to it than that?

To be fair to RPS here, they aren't the only ones giving it poor reviews. I know you should take reviews with a large amount of salt but bioware games generally recieve critical acclaim so I didn't see this coming.

Tell us more about Nier though as I'm also super excited about that.

NB: Super excited means I look forward to playing the game in 2-3 years. This year I'm looking forward to playing Witcher 3 and maybe Rise of the Tomb Raider :D

Created my first character.  The graphics are a bit choppy for me right now.  The game set it at Ultra, but probably left it at 4k.  I need to figure out how to set it to 2k, or leave it at 4k and switch it to Very High.  A lot of High School homework drama in my house last night so I did not get far in the game.

In my short time in the game I get what people are saying about animations.  Hopefully they the will get some improvements as the game matures.  I like the design of my first character, so I will try to get a good screenie of her soon.

Made a character. A bit annoyed about the inability to make a white girl but whatever Bioware.

Saved the game. Went to load my save. Got this error. But it is installed. So, you know... go fuck yourself, EA.

So I finally got a character that will load after saving, so that's a plus.

Have played through the first mission.

Thus far, all I can say is... So.Much.Disappointment.

Bioware, why?

Another day with limited play time.  Video was not choppy this time and it was very pretty down on the planet.  Though there was a lot of things that were borrowed DAI.  I got a bit of combat in and it was good, actually surprisingly tough battles.  I really liked the mechanics of jumping and hovering and shooting.  Overload animation was pretty win.  Environment for the fight was interesting.

Butch, this game is amazing. Lip sync is a little odd. Not even bad, just a bit odd.

This game fucking owns. Loving it so far.

I'm playing with the default Sarah Ryder. I think she's cute as a button. It's nice to have a main that's not a red-headed, pale skinned supermodel. There. I said it. I must be the only person in the world that thinks so based on teh internetz.

I think the point is supposed to be that you should be able to choose how your character looks.  ME:A, as it stands right now, railroads you into a certain look.  In this day and age our character creation choices should be greater, not fewer.  They really screwed the pooch with this one.
