Me3 Game Doesn't Save
« on: December 05, 2012, 09:49:52 PM »
No clue what is going on.

I recently downloaded the game to my new computer.

Imported a character.

Started campaign.

Click save...icon says saving...

Go to load and nothing is there.

Really getting pissed.

Imported a character from the old HD?  Maybe importing across HDs tags the file as read only.  Check that.

"when i'm old and when my eyes have shrivelled up their standard 100 inch screen of the time will be ok.  when my hands wither away the 1 button mouse will finally make sense and the most fun i'll have is pissing myself .. then i'll be boring enough for a mac"  -Timinator

I'm quite sick of having choices of "Bud Light" or "Busch Light".  That's like choosing between my own piss and someone elses piss.  -Dashy

"It's now very common to hear people say 'I'm rather offended by that.'  As if that gives them certain rights; it's actually nothing more...it's simply a whine.  It's no more than a whine.  'I find that offensive,' it has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that,' well so fucking what?"   -Stephen Fry

If you have ME3 installed on a different partition or disk from your "Documents" folder, it won't save.

To fix this... Edit your game's shortcut and add the "-nohomedir" switch, thus:
C:\<whatever>\Mass Effect 3\Binaries\MassEffect3.exe" -nohomedir
(paths may vary, obviously)

And you have to launch the game using the shortcut, NOT through Origin. If you don't, the game won't find your saves.

Your saves will then be located in the ME3 "Biogame" folder, rather than your "Documents" folder.

(this is apparently a problem with many (all?) UT3-based games)

I am betting that Luch found it.

I moved my Documents folder to a different partition than the install.

UT3?

UT3?

The Unreal game engine, or whatever it's called, that ME is built on.

It worked.  Thanks Luch.

Damn that was annoying.

Cheers. :D

The game is FUN.

Poser.

Yeah the ending sucks.

But the game is awesomely fun.  Excellent writing and characters (minus the ending).
