ME3 Discussion w/Spoilers
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:52:14 AM »
I wanted to start a thread for ME3 that can have spoilers.

I think it is safe to say that any post can have spoilerish comments.

I would still ask that out right spoilers be clearly marked so anyone who reads can avoid then if desired.

*****
Spoiler level for the rest of this post is LIGHT.
*****

So far I have completed about four missions.  As always ME3 very heavy on the story, with decent breaks between the action.  You still spend plenty of time going around a talking to people.  I have found this to be very consistent with the first two games.

Overall game play is much improved.  I have done a couple of battles that were very satisfying.  So far the best has been one where I reunited briefly with Jack.  The mechanics as a whole are much improved in battle.  There have been some head scratchers in other areas.  Fem ship when not in battle runs like a girly girl.  In battle the running is much better.  There have been a couple places where you go through weird check points that just slow you down for no good reason.

Speaking of older characters.  So far only two have joined my crew.  Other than that I have run across a bunch of old faces.  Sometime is good ways.  One in particular has been lame and felt forced.

Graphics...still don't love the new look and feel.  In some places it looks really good, in others it comes across as cartoony. That might be because of my graphics card.  The first two I was able to play with a leading edge graphics card.  Now that same graphics card is middle of the road.  I am running on Nvidia 8800 GTS.  I imagine things would look more uniformly better with a newer card.  On my card there are times when things go a little blurry or the frame rate shudders.  Not enough to distract me from enjoying the game.

Missions...this game seems much much bigger than the old one.  It also feels more like a sandbox.  That might just be my perception as I do not really know what/where the story is taking me.  There have been a couple that are obviously main line.  But others creep up quickly.  Even when you are in a mission it seems less linear.  You generally know where your target is, but it seems less clear how you are going to get there.  This, so far, has led to a little frustration as I try to figure out where I am going.  But it has made the whole game seem more organic and better.

Day 1 From Ashes DLC.  Certainly scummy of Bioware/EA to have done this.  That said I just finished playing it last night.  It has a good little mission but nothing fabulous.  No where near as good Lair of the Shadow Broker.  Not even as good as the Kasumi DLC.  Very annoying that it wasn't a part of the main game.  I didn't even realize that I had started the DLC mission until I got about 10% into the mission.  I like the new character but I do not get the impression that he is going to be critical to the story or change it in any amazing way.  I will have to revisit this once I have finished my first play through.  The only sightly interesting thing about the mission is that you learn of he back story of the last day of the Protheans.  You do get a new weapon out of the mission.  No clue if it is a good one.  As a long time player of the game I enjoyed the DLC.  Worth an extra 10 bucks?  Nah...should have been free.

Well that is all I have so far.  Feel free to hit me up with questions if you got any.

Am I the only one playing it now?

Started last night with my ME1->ME2->ME3 Adept.  Started at level 28(!!!) with all my old skills, which was nice - made the tutorial much quicker than the demo.

I did the mission with Garrus, and currently cleaning up sidequests right now before moving on.  Back on the Citadel now; was happy to meet Thane, and was unhappy to see that he doesn't come with you.  So  far, I'm enjoying it - I was a bit leery from the demo, but this seems to be the best in the series.

I have to agree with how the game looks, technically.  Playing on 360 (same Shepard since 12/2007!) there are time when I can't believe it's UE3, and others where it's...a bit less impressive.  We'll see how it goes, but overall I'm happy with how it's come out.

(edit) If you're going Adept, I've found Singularilty+Warp to be devastatingly powerful on Insanity.  Singularity still stuns/slows shielded enemies, and unshielded/unarmored ones drop in one hit of Singularity+Warp.

With the character that I am playing Thane is the only one that died at the end of ME2.  I ended up seeing Miranda and she thankfully does not join the crew.  Never really liked her.

BTW did you have that stupid reporter come on board?  I told her to Fraaakkk off.

I picked it up while I was away during the week, just started playing last night with my Paragon Soldier (from my Insanity run), started at level 31.  Picked up James, Ashley, Liara, and the Prothean, since I bought the collector's edition and got him for free.  Interesting character, but yeah, the mission to get him is nothing special.

Still having a great time with the game.  Love the fighting.  Some of the environments are just awesome.  Much better than ME2.

Not sure what is going on with the war readiness stuff.  Seems broken to me.  Nothing has changed since I started.  Everything is on 50%.  WTF.

Paragon/Renegade vs. Reputation.  -- I am not seeing any benefit from the Reputation stuff.

Searching systems.  It is a huge improvement over scanning planets and getting onto the Mako.  Still annoying at times.  And the rewards for it strike me as a bit silly.  WTF...I just found ships from the second fleet!  Did you get fraaking lost?  Makes no sense.

Just got to put a bullet into Udina!  That was very satisfying.

Just installed it last night and imported my ME2 character. Started at level 30, though I've seen people start at level 60 somehow O.o

Currently at the Citadel after fleeing from Earth at the beginning of the game. Controls are nice, movement is crisp, gameplay seems more fluid now, and the new way powers and their cooldowns work adds a little more depth to squad development. Biotic Explosions are a nice touch as well and are mandatory to setup on insanity. Makes having a more diverse squad that much more attractive.

Me too....I just googled it and it is related to playing on the MP mode (which is as much of a load of BS as the Origin platform IMO).  I hate MP games, which is why I love this series.  From what I have read, the war readiness is tied into the endings you get.....it apparently makes it easier to get the 'best' ending without going crazy doing everything in SP.

So I can safely ignore I guess.  Piss poor on Bioware.  I am perfectly happy trying to go crazy and do everything in SP.

Gotta say, it's hard staying faithful to Ashley with Specialist Traynor around.  "It'd be fun to play someone besides EDI, EDI doesn't sweat."  "You normally sweat when playing chess?"  "It depends on how much fun we're having."

Ran into quite a few people so far, Wrex, Mordin, Kasumi, Grunt, Miranda, Thane, Jack, etc.

I don't understand the hate for the MP. It's basically horde mode with character progression and is actually very fun. It doesn't interfere with SP at all so no reason to call it bad if SP is your thing. Just don't play it.

Got through the most annoying part of the game so far, dodging a Reaper's shots as I try to get to cover that typically isn't actually cover and thus I die instantly even when there's technically a barrier in the way.  I died a few times and it caused a glitch where the graphics were skewed towards red and fuzzy as hell for the rest of the mission, gave me a headache.

Luckily after that, I got a couple really really good scenes in the Citadel, one of which actually made me cry.

I don't hate MP per say.

I do hate that they wasted time on MP instead of beefing up the SP which is the heart of the series.

I also hate that there is this stupid console that I have been running to and trying to figure that only has meaning if you are in MP mode.  That is awful.

Just finished two of the Quarian quests.  The one where you go into the collective was different and mostly meh.

Does anyone know if the galactic readiness rating "past" the full bar matters at all for the ending?  I've got the bar all the way full, but as I kept going the description of my chances changes when I hit new values.  Apparently I won't be able to do MP because creating a match or joining a match causes my PS3 to hard-freeze without fail, causing it to have to recover the filing system when I turn it back on, when it hasn't done that for the SP in 25 hours.

Edit- Nevermind, I found a spoiler-free guide that gave me the cutoff plateaus for what I need.  Unfortunately it's gonna require a lot of MP, as I'm only about 60% the way to the highest plateau and I'm at the "point of no return".

I had effective readiness at ~3700 with all (currently known) quests done. I think MP is basically required unless you take a perfect path through choices.

The MP is pretty fun, but the "lose a couple percent every day" mechanic is really annoying. Any readiness progress you make is temporary.

I have about 3100 with all quests done, although that's with 50% in all theaters of war.  There are apparently plateaus at 4000 and 5000, hence why I'm trying to get MP to work.  I was able to join a few matches without it freezing, and for the most part people online know what they're doing, but both times by about wave 4 or 5 I would get disconnected (I'm on 20/5 FIOS), and when they happens you get NOTHING.  Everything I just achieved in the last 15 minutes, gone.  So the ONLY way I can accomplish anything is to play by myself and fail over and over again because it's pretty much impossible to beat all waves with a level 1 character (but after failing 3 times all theaters of war went up to 51%).
