Yknow, I really have no opinion on the one set main character & voiced; that works very well in Mass Effect, so while limiting in some ways perhaps it'd allow them to do more in others -- or it could just make the game much more boring.

But this?  I really did *not* need another brown gameworld, thankyouverymuch.  Just - no. :(

The Qunari redone:

*edit* They've also stated that both elves and dwarves will see a similar redesign, to make them look less human.

Bioware developer Peter Thomas answers all questions related to gameplay

Some highlights:

- Warriors will no longer be able to dual wield or use a bow
- rogues will not be able to use shields
- No more Arcane Warrior; no cross-class specializations, or specializations that grant another class's abilities
- no friendly fire, except on nightmare difficult; it may not be possible to change difficulties during the game (undecided yet)
- All characters will be given more tactics slots to start with
- There is now an impact system; if you hit a creature with something (or get hit) you may be interrupted, stumble, or be knocked down.
- Each class will have around 6 skill trees, with 10 possible selections in each tree (some are different abilities, some are ability upgrades)

Only about a month away - pretty excited about this one as I personally though the ME series was better than DA (although DA was great too). It may end up being a flop if trying to impose the ME style onto DA ends up being crappy, but in principle I am definitely looking forward to that.

I downloaded the demo and played for a bit last night. The combat is much faster paced but I don't think that's a bad thing. Abilities can be used more often and the restrictions on Stamina/Mana are not as high. I don't see much difference in the character creation area of the 2 games. You choose the basic class you want to be and there still is an origin story for your character.

I personally loved the demo. I still felt like I was playing Dragon Age, which IMO is the most important aspect.

I've got mixed views, ive never had much play time with old'er hardcore RPG's like BG that alot of people compared Dragon Age to now that i've played Dragon Age 2 I bet I can now share that same feeling when those hardcore guys played Dragon Age for the first time after being BG fans.

Its different, alot faster but without the ability to change the difficulty setting in the demo I can get a full grasp of how it might feel combat wise on the harder settings I seriously just zerged my way through the demo it didnt matter what I did.

There was too much effort towards a cinematic feel I felt it was jumping so much between game combat and cut scenes i was getting angry I just want to play the game. and those damn single lane paths between towns and main areas are still in the game I feel so restricted.

it felt good in a responsive way but at the same time I felt way too powerful even with no spells but that may have just been difficulty. Alot of people are going to hate and cry console dumbing down which is has been for sure I just not sure if its to a point of being really annoying

And those accents god they are awful.

You have to remember this is a demo. They can't put something out there that's overly difficult as they will basically be turning money away from their product. They need to put something out there that is immediately fun and will draw people in to buy the final product.

As for the cut-scenes, I didn't notice it having more than the original Dragon Age. I think you might just be tricked into thinking there are more because the flow of combat is faster. In the first Dragon Age things moved at a much slower pace so the cut-scenes seemed more spread out.

Just listened to a podcast where Mike Laidlaw was interviewed (head developer for DA2), and here's some things I learned:

Most of your party members have known the main character and each other for a long time, and thus they will often show their familiarity in their dialogue, most notably with each other.
Warriors will be able to hit multiple enemies at once with each regular attack, even as Sword/Shield (although obviously a smaller arc than a two-hander).
With the new friendship vs. rival approval system, it is possible to have a "romantic" relationship with a rival, which leads to a whole different type of romance *wink wink*.
Your character's random quotes (sayings in battle, etc.) will change based on the choices you consistently make in normal dialogue (if you constantly choose the funny/wise-cracking option, your combat quotes will match it).  This may apply to other things as well, basically that your character's personality is made by your decisions and you will see more over-arcing effects from it.
Currently playing: King of Fighters XIV, ME3 MP (PS3), Bloodborne, Life is Strange

Any one else's first impressions?

Here's mine: this is actually a very pretty game. I was surprised to realize after a couple hours that my video settings were on low quality - certainly didn't look like it! Story is pretty compelling so far, more interesting than either Mass Effect 1 or 2. They don't waste much time going over the lore that you learn in DA1, which is nice.

For some reason, it seemed to feel *very* different than DA1 in terms of gameplay. Also, can you say gore? Bodies exploding everywhere, slicing people in half, Bethany turning people into piles of red goo... it's a little over the top. Also boobs.

Fuck you, Bioware. Fuck you for using the same areas over and over again, thinking we would be too stupid to notice.

Fuckers.
