The official word, as posted/stickied on the HGL forums:

Flagship Studios Still in Operations

San Francisco, CA (July 14, 2008) -- Flagship Studios has announced today that despite rumors to the contrary, the company is still operating.

“It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship.” said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. “The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain the size of the company any longer.”

Flagship Studios owns the rights to all its technology and IP, including Hellgate: London and Mythos. Due to the current situation, Flagship will not be taking any new subscribers for Hellgate: London, and all current subscriptions will not be billed.

Flagship wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to those that have supported the company and games over the past five years.

I'm in Korea at the moment, want me to go break some kneecaps?

Bad news though, glad I tried it out, shame it was rubbish.

So wth are they going to do?

They've got no people, and apparently no way of making money, as they can't support subscriptions...

Wittgenstein is popularly credited with the idea that most philosophical controversies are due to confusions over language. I'm not sure how much credit to give him. I suspect a lot of people realized this, but reacted simply by not studying philosophy, rather than becoming philosophy professors. ~~Paul Graham

Do they or don't they own IP rights to HGL?  Every other report I've read says they don't.

Meh...they are dead IMO.  That missive was posted to try and calm people from thinking they are dead.  They hope it gives who ever takes over a chance to continue to publish in the US.

I started a marksman on single player 1.2.  At least I don't need them for that.

Seems to me that they were so close to getting 2.0 out the door.  Pity they didn't.

When did a mod change our forum description?

How long before we end up in the Dusty Cellar?

What ever happened to Minor-Diety?

lol!!!  It was only a matter of time I guess.  Flagshipped is one of those terms that I'll be using for awhile.

So, any wagers on how long before the game servers go down?

I never played HG:L, but because of its distinguished heritage, I really was hoping that Flagship Studios did well.  What happened at Blizzard didn't seem to go down well, and then their first big venture fails massively.  This is sad for gaming in general, but especially sad knowing that they're the same guys who are responsible for giving me hundreds if not thousands of hours of fun.

No matter...I'm still playing SP and having fun with the game.  Diablo 3 can wait.
